Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) and why?
Moneyball16: Mike Matheson – Vancouver is an underrated matchup for defensemen because they remain a bad team, but players do get 7% more blocked shots against them compared to the average team. Matheson has huge usage on this bad Montreal team, where he’s too cheap with a really nice floor.
ezellmt: Mika Zibanejad – With all of the attention being paid to MacKinnon and McDavid, Zibanejad is likely to be overlooked. While he doesn’t have the upside of those two, the consistency has been there with points in 12 of his last 13 games.
Joda: Alex Ovechkin – Ovi’s price is down, so I like taking some shots tonight against Edmonton’s bottom-five penalty kill unit. Ovechkin has tournament-winning upside in what could be a back-and-forth affair.
Who is your top overall play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Moneyball16: Connor McDavid – This current iteration of the Oilers where they have zero depth is great for McDavid’s minutes, he has great correlation with other strong plays, and Washington likely has Kuemper hurt so, especially at home, Washington is a better matchup than it appears.
ezellmt: Connor McDavid – He has four consecutive multi-point games and a total of 11 points during that span. He’ll be at home where he is averaging two points per game (26 in 13 games). Lock and load.
Joda: Connor McDavid – Plenty of value on this condensed slate to jam the best player on the planet into your lineups. Pair him up with Draisaitl for the best 1-2 punch in the league.
What’s your hot take of the night?
Moneyball16: Zach Hyman gets 2 goals and an assist.
ezellmt: Linus Ullmark continues his Vezina-caliber season by allowing just a single goal to the Golden Knights.
Joda: Montreal can’t stay out of the box and the Canucks light them up for 2+ PPG
