NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Saturday, April 6th
Slate Overview
A rare props to the NHL for having a balanced week of games (for once). We have yet another six-gamer, which I believe is our third in a row? It means you all are probably sick of me, but that’s showbiz baby! So how does DK respond as far as the contests? YIKES. NHL might be dead, at least on Saturdays. The $400 has a total prize pool of… $24,200. The $15 Kick Save is even worse with a paltry $20,000 in prizes. C’est la vie.
The Canucks-Kings is the headliner and only real life game of note, but it might be the least desirable from a fantasy perspective. Instead, even the trash game between the Flyers-Blue Jackets has more appeal. The Maple Leafs, Flyers, and Oilers stand out as the teams in the best spots, with all three having identical implied team totals of 3.7. I think I give the Maple Leafs the slight edge due to their matchup against the Canadiens.
There has already been a ton of news in the Discord and I expect that to continue throughout the day. It’s that time of year where the definite playoff teams are ensuring they are healthy going in, while the teams that are out of it might be looking to give some younger players a shot (see Shane Wright last night).
Top Skaters
Auston Matthews
DraftKings $10,200
Matthews is up to a ridiculous 63 goals on the season. His next will match McDavid’s season-leading total from last year, and two will get him to Ovechkin’s number from the 2007-2008 season. You can go back any number of games to get silly numbers for Matthews, but I’ll go with the last five for fun. In that span, he’s averaging 6.4 SOG, 1.0 goals, and 0.4 assists, all of which are elevated from his season-long averages.
He’ll attempt to make history against Montreal, who is a good team to try and do that against. On Tuesday, they stunned the Panthers in a 5-3 win, but then came crashing back to earth by giving up seven goals to the Lightning. In the two prior meetings against the Canadiens, Matthews has three goals and eleven shots on goal for an average of 27.5 DK points. Other than ownership, there’s not a great reason to fade Matthews tonight.
