Slate Overview

Let’s call a spade a spade here. The last article I wrote on Thursday was probably the worst of the season, and I’m not sure it’s close. Whiffed on almost everything. Unfortunately, that’s going to happen, especially in a volatile sport like hockey. Heck, the Sharks went out and beat the brakes off a Blues team who had just done the same to the Avalanche! It’s a crazy (beautiful) sport. After a weak two-gamer last week, we are blessed with a nine gamer this evening. There’s even a decent three-game early slate for the true degenerates. The Boston Bruins stand head and shoulders above the other teams on the main slate and should be extremely popular. There’s a few real life games between the Rangers-Devils and Avalanche-Stars, but the even-nature of the matchups might make then slightly less appealing for fantasy purposes. Identifying the chalk after the Bruins might prove challenging and could be spread out. The Capitals will be a popular choice, but there are also four other teams besides them and the Bruins with implied team totals of 3.7 goals or more. Let’s take a look at some of my preferred options.

Top Skaters

David Pastrnak
DraftKings $9,500

Earlier in the week, I added something to my “food bucket list” after seeing a video on Instagram. I want to eat pasta that was made in one of those massive parmesan cheese wheels where they light on fire and use the melted cheese for the sauce. Speaking of pasta… David Pastrnak is in an absolute smash spot tonight. I can’t remember a slate of this size when there was such a clear option at the top. Yes, there are other players with equal talent, but they are in much tougher matchups. Meanwhile, Pastrnak will be at home against an average (at best) Montreal team. His numbers at TD Garden are stellar with 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in just 7 games. All of these factors have led to Pastrnak being projected at over 3 more points than the next closes skater. Other than ownership concerns, there aren’t many reasons to fade Pasta tonight.
