Today’s Games
Slate Overview
I’m exhausted. For some strange reason, for the first time all year, I did this section last instead of first. Fourteen games. That’s a lot of games. For the mathematically-challenged, that’s 28 teams to sift through. Luckily, we can probably strike about six of them off the list, using the criteria of teams that have less than a 3.0 implied team total. From there, we can narrow our search to the eight teams with an implied total of 3.6 or more. And no, I’m not saying there aren’t pieces and stacks from the other teams that aren’t viable, just trying to narrow it down for those that are overwhelmed. The standout spot is the Bruins at home against the Sharks. They have now moved above a -500 favorite, a line I wasn’t sure we’d ever see in an NHL game. As crazy as it sounds, I don’t think Pastrnak and the Bruins will be wildly high-owned just because there are so many teams and other good spots. For contests, DK has done away with the $555 and appears fed up with the overlay in it the last few weeks. That’s a bummer because it was an interesting entry level, but they’re going with the more traditional $400 in its place. There’s also another $1450 qualifer up for grabs. I said I wasn’t going to enter those without a ticket and I’m ticketless, so someone else will have to take it down. We have much to cover, so let’s get into it.

David Pastrnak
DraftKings $9,800
There aren’t many instances in NHL DFS where a player is a near must-play (for cash games, people can always be faded in tournaments), but that’s pretty close to the scenario we have tonight. The Bruins are the biggest favorite I can remember seeing at -500 and Pasrnak’s goalscoring prop is also a sky-high -140 (which is actually a little lower than I expected). I like Pastrnak even more knowing that he was shut out in their last game, in an almost equally favorable matchup against the Blue Jackets. His shot prop is his usual 4.5, but is juiced all the way to -135. He’s been much more efficient at home this year and is averaging almost two points per game at TD Garden. In tournaments, there’s always merit to fading someone as such high ownership, but that’s probably the only reason to not have “Pasta” for dinner this evening.
