Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?
JMBWngFn: Since the NHL Trade deadline (Feb 26th), Winnipeg and Nashville have been the two fastest paced teams in the NHL (126.49 and 126,48 CP60, respectivally). They square off tonight in Nashville. Also worth noting, Calgary and Edmonton, who also play each other tonight, sit third and fourth in that same stat.
Boggslite: Ottawa has surrendered the most shot attempts and scoring chances among road teams over their past 25 games whereas Tampa Bay has generated the most scoring chances and the fourth most shot attempts among home teams on tonight’s slate during that same span.
JayWilly: Tonight, there’s Tampa Bay, then there’s everyone else. Ottawa has been among the three worst defensive teams over any stretch of the season, and lately has been no exception. With Edmonton being the only other road team in tank mode tonight, the Lightning are a head and shoulders option tonight.
What’s your hot take of the night?
JMBWngFn: Goals everywhere as all seven games go over their Vegas implied goal totals
Boggslite: WPG / NSH features 9+ goals
JayWilly: Tampa Bay scores 5+ goals tonight
Who is your top overall play and why?
JMBWngFn: I expect ownership numbers on Tampa’s top line to be through the roof, so looking elsewhere I really like Calgary’s top line. Glen Gulutzan will likely do all he can to keep them away from Connor McDavid, and the Flames have actually been the best puck possession team in the NHL since the trade deadline (60.25 CF%). Meanwhile, Edmonton’s 46.95 CF% in that same time has them ranked 29th in the league and we already know all about their horrendous penalty kill.
Boggslite: NSH 2 – Their moderate salaries open a lot of possibilities to pair with higher priced line stacks. This line typically draws the easiest matchup on home ice and all three skaters see an equal amount of power play time against a Winnipeg Jets team that continues to take too many penalties for their own good.
JayWilly: Tampa Bay is the top overall play, certainly. But don’t sleep on NSH. The top two lines are both dynamic, and though Winnipeg is one of the strongest teams in the league, this is a spot where they have a back-to-back and Nashville is very well rested. Their Vegas total is quite high, so it might not be all that sneaky, but it’s still a very good spot.
