NHL GPP Plays: Thursday, February 5th

rotogrinders_user_21697

Every Tuesday and Thursday I am going to give you my top tournament plays for all Daily Fantasy Hockey GPPs (guaranteed prize pool). GPPs are a general term used across the industry for your big money tournaments.

GPPs are very different from your cash games and you use a different strategy with them. In our GPPs we are not interested in safe plays, GPPs are all about UPSIDE. We want players who can explode, all-or-nothing type players can become GPP gold, and your value picks are just as important as your well-known stars. You need your players to have huge nights in order to take down these big tournaments.

My goal is to provide players who will be under-owned and have that big game upside you are looking for. I will also try to find as much value as I possibly can. Now, let’s get to the NHL GPP Plays!

GOALTENDERS

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.

mike-smith-300x200

Mike Smith, Arizona Coyotes – Nobody said you had to love or feel totally confident in your GPP goalie. I am aware of how bad Mike Smith has been this season, but he is cheap, and in a very good spot tonight versus the Carolina Hurricanes and their 6-17-4 road record. Smith has actually been very good in three of his last four starts, and it is not like the Hurricanes have an offense to fear. Carolina is eighth in shots per game, but are second to last in goals per game, which is the perfect scenario for Smith.

Other Goalies To Target – Steve Mason, Jonathan Quick, Braden Holtby

CENTER

mike-fisher-300x200

Mike Fisher, Nashville Predators – Fisher has been on fire for the Predators recently, tallying four goals and seven points in his last four games. The Predators’ second line featuring Colin Wilson, Fisher and James Neal has really picked up their game offensively and Nashville is no longer a one-line team. Fisher is hot and won’t be highly owned in GPPs.

Other Centers To Target – Paul Stastny, Tyler Johnson, Antoine Vermette

WINGERS

patrick-eaves-300x200

Patrick Eaves, Dallas Stars – Eaves has points in four straight games, including three goals and 12 shots on goal. Eaves has the luxury of playing with superstars Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn on the Stars’ top line and number one power-play unit. Eaves is one of the best bargains available tonight.

Anders Lee, New York Islanders – Lee had a huge game versus the Florida Panthers Tuesday night, scoring two goals and adding four shots on goal. Lee is currently on the Islanders’ top line alongside John Tavares and Josh Bailey and also sees time on New York’s second power-play unit. Lee is a talented young player, and as long as he remains in his new role, he has tremendous value.

Tobias Rieder, Arizona Coyotes – Rieder scored his eighth goal of the season against the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday night and added three shots on net. Rieder skates on the Desert Dogs’ top line with Antoine Vermette and Shane Doan, and also sees duty on the Coyotes’ number one power-play unit. The Hurricanes have lost three games in a row and have allowed 12 goals along the way. Rieder is dirt cheap and makes a great roll of the dice in your GPPs.

Other Wingers To Target – Marcus Johansson, Bobby Ryan, Nikita Kucherov

DEFENSE

mike-green-300x200

Mike Green, Washington Capitals – Green has nine points in his last eight games, including four of the multi-point variety. The Senators continue to take too many penalties (26th in the league) which will come back to bite them tonight against Washington’s number three ranked power play. Green has had a strong career versus Ottawa (6 G, 16 A, 22 PTS in 29 GP) and he has huge GPP upside.

Other Defensemen To Target – John Klingberg, Tyson Barrie, Seth Jones
