Wednesday, January 29th

After a short, unusual two-game Tuesday night, we have a slightly larger six-game slate tonight as the NHL still has some teams on their bye weeks. With just one team, the Calgary Flames, on the tail-end of a back-to-back. Let’s take a quick look at a breakdown of each game tonight.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Dallas Stars

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been clearly better under Sheldon Keefe than they were under Mike Babcock and despite all of the criticism they receive based off of their defensive play, the struggles they had leading into the All-Star break were mostly goalie oriented rather than their defensive play. The Leafs do rely on Freddie Andersen to bail them out, but he has done that quite well for the most part this season. After dismanteling the Nashville Predators on Monday night, tonight they head into Dallas to take on the Stars — best defensive team in the NHL. Dallas allows just 2.45 goals against per game and has the sixth-best penalty kill as they’re successful on 82.8 percent of their penalty kills.
