steven stamkos

Back for another week of hockey insight for play on Fantasy Sports Live.

Center:

Stamkos and Crosby are always must-starts on FSL. Stamkos actually saw his cap hit go down this week to 99, so don’t be shy about using him. Joe Thornton is a steal at 47 points. Backstrom and Malkin are also priced reasonably.

Left Wing:

James Neal, Daniel Sedin and Pavel Datsyuk are players to target. Datsyuk came down in price this week, as did Ovechkin. Simon Gagne just returned and he’s a give away at 10 points right now. Play that to your advantage until others catch on.

Right Wing:

Turn to Patrick Kane and Claude Giroux whenever possible, as they’re both reasonably priced and are delivering good fantasy value. At 24 points, Kovalchuk is awfully tempting.

Defense:

On defense, there’s still no reason to spend much. You can get Gonchar, Keith and Weber for 30 points or less. The main thing holding these guys back is their +/-, which is tough to predict. Expect their price tags to go up considerably by the end of the year. Cam Fowler has gone up slightly, but is still a good value pick at 19 points. Bogosian is practically free at 11 points.

Goalie:

Don’t be shy about spending your money on the goalie with the best chance to win. That said, there are a few worth targeting: Fleury’s value just jumped from 50 to 81, but he’s still worth a look on most night’s for that price. Bryzgalov’s price went up this week, but he’s still a good option at 107.

One strong approach when picking your goaltender is to target goalies playing against slumping teams. The teams hurting most right now are:

The Kings are in a slump, but I wouldn’t bet against their offense breaking out at any moment. Using that strategy, it looks like Lundqvist (vs NYI), Howard (vs Ducks), and Anderson (vs Carolina) are decent plays tonight. Anderson comes the cheapest at 88 points. As always, make sure and confirm the starter before game time.

Roster: FSL – 10 Man – 575 Point Cap

Playing in the standard 10-team, 575 point cap league for Friday, here is my roster. With Stamkos and Crosby taking the night off, I’m loading up on Sedins and Wings up front:

Pos. Player Cap Hit Notes
Goalie Henrik Lundqvist 106 Can’t resist a matchup with the Isles
Center Henrik Sedin 60 The Hawks are giving up goals in bunches right now. The Sedins should have no trouble putting a couple on the board.
Center Henrik Zetterberg 67 Seems like a good night to play guys named Henrik.
Left Wing Daniel Sedin 70 See above. Daniel is averaging 14+ fantasy points/game on FSL.
Left Wing Pavel Datsyuk 65 Datsyuk is right there with Daniel in fp/game and has been hot lately with a goal and 4 assists in his last 2 games.
Right Wing Corey Perry 69 Perry is the same territory as the two above in fantasy production. He delivers in goals, assists and penalty minutes.
Right Wing Marian Gaborik 58 Had the hat trick last night against the Isles. Should keep the action rolling in the sequel tonight.
Defense Duncan Keith 30 The Norris Trophy winner remains a value at 30 points.
Defense Brent Burns 37 Rounded out my roster with Burns at a fair 37 point hit.

Weekly Target Picks:

Here are my weekly target picks across FSL. For each position I’ve included the Top Price player who is the most expensive at that spot, my Target players who I am trying to get on my lineup at a fair cost, and my Value picks which are players that are priced very cheaply based on what they are expected to produce.
