Notable SuperContest Picks for Week 3 Betting

The Las Vegas SuperContest is regarded by many as the world’s preeminent sports betting competition. With its eighth consecutive record-setting year in 2018 with 3,123 entries and an enormous first-place prize of $1.422 million, we’re not going to be ones to disagree. In addition to providing sports bettors incredible bang for their buck with plenty of big prizes up for grabs, the SuperContest provides sports bettors everywhere with a unique opportunity to gain an edge by tailing the contest’s top contestants.

Every week during football season, the deadline to enter weekly SuperContest picks hits and within a few hours, the picks for every single contestant are released to the public. These are available for viewing for everyone, so you can take a look at the leaderboard, so who the top players are and their picks, and then decide if you want to follow them to the betting window and place a bet for yourself. It’s essentially a free tout service without any of the extra B.S.

Most professional sports bettors will tell you that your goal is to hit 55% winners, especially in football. From 2013 to 2017, 26 contestants have finished with a winning percentage of 65% or higher. That’s really, really good by betting standards and you could have tailed along with each of these picks, week in and week out, to give yourself an edge.

Do know the lines mentioned in this article are contest lines dedicated to the Las Vegas SuperContest. The lines are put out by Westgate every Wednesday afternoon and are locked. Unlike regular sports betting lines that can change, the contest lines are locked in. This can work against you in cases where you may have missed out on the value a line presented, but it can also work for you if a line has moved in your favor. This is certainly something to keep an eye on.

The 2018 Las Vegas SuperContest is only two weeks in, but already we have some very impressive starts worth watching that we may want to tail.

Tailing the Leaders: Cardinals, Lions, and Redskins

After Week 2, three contestants were tied for first place at 9-1 – “RICK D,” “H2OBOY,” and “FINALLY 2019.” As the picks have been released for Week 3, let’s see who these three have selected.

RICK D: 49ers (+6.5), Cardinals (+6), Jets (+3), Lions (+7), Redskins (+2.5)

H2OBOY: Buccaneers (+1), Colts (+6.5), Cowboys (+2), Lions (+7), Ravens (-5.5)

FINALLY 2019: Cardinals (+6), Giants (+6.5), Raiders (+3), Redskins (+2.5), Steelers (-1)

As you can see, these contestants took mostly underdogs. Across their 15 selections, only two picks were favorites – Ravens (-5.5) and Steelers (-1) – and that’s with good reason. These three contestants were a combined 20-3 when picking underdogs heading into Week 3. Even if you include RICK D’s pick of the Jets (+3) that lost, the trio is a combined 20-4 when selecting underdogs. Two weeks into the NFL season is a small sample size, but the results of these contestants when selecting underdogs stands out. This type of tend is in the very least worth monitoring if you’re someone who needs a little more of a sample size before joining them at the window.

The strong plays from these three contestants look to be the Cardinals (+6), Lions (+7), and Redskins (+2.5), as each of those picks is shared by two of the contestants. All three are home underdogs, of which the three contestants are a perfect 9-0 when selecting. Overall in the SuperContest, home underdogs are 5-3 against the spread, which is a good 62.5%, but these three contestants look to be dialed in early on what home underdogs to pick.

Looking a little deeper, the Redskins (+2.5) are the top pick among the top 10 and top 50 teams on the leaderboard, and that should give us greater confidence if we want to tail this pick.

Musburger and Others Start Well with Home Teams and Favorites

If you’re looking for known bettors to tail, one could be Brent Musburger, who is listed under the entry name “VSiN 1.” Musburger added a win to his record with a win from the Browns (-3) on Thursday night and is sitting at 8-3 heading into the Sunday’s action for Week 3.

If you’re looking to tail Musburger, his best pick record comes when selecting home teams and favorites. On just home sides, Musburger is 5-1 this season. On favorite sides, he’s 4-1. When combining the two and selecting home team favorites, Musburger is 3-1.

For Week 3, Musburger has three more home favorites on his card in addition to the Browns (-3) he already booked a win with. The three others are Jaguars (-9.5), Chiefs (-6.5), and Seahawks (-2).

Other contestants doing well in regards to home favorites are “LFG CITY,” “JIVANI,” “GAMBLING RATS,” “BALCH LAKE BOYZ,” and “ELITE DEGENERATES.” All five had the home favorite Browns (-3) on their card for Week 3 and are now a combined 20-0-3 when picking home favorites. How can this help us as sports bettors going forward? Immediately, it can help us for Sunday in Week 3 if we want to tail any of their home favorite sides.

Of note, three picks appear on more than one card for Week 3. Those are Chiefs (-6.5), Panthers (-3), and Vikings (-16.5). Regarding those three picks, it’s also worth noting that the 49ers (+6.5), who are playing the Chiefs, and the Bengals (+3), who are playing the Panthers, appeared on opposing cards within that group. That would give us the most confidence on the Vikings (-16.5) as a tail from this group of contestants, but laying 16.5 points might require a shot of tequila before you go to the window.
