Before we get into this week’s picks, let’s quickly recap last week’s event. Bubba Watson led this tournament all weekend, only to falter down the stretch. In a Sunday showdown that was really about which player could hold it together, and Kevin Stadler came out victorious.
As far as the picks for last week, I have to be honest, it wasn’t a great week of picks. When you make picks on a weekly basis, it’s only fair to recap the good and the bad. Keegan Bradley was my top play of the week and he had one of the worst second rounds of golf that he has ever played. He shot a 9-over and ended up easily missing the cut. Justin Leonard also fell shy of the cut line. While Ryan Moore and Robert Garrigus both had solid weeks, they didn’t do nearly enough to make up for Bradley and Leonard.
Pebble Beach Pro-Am Preview
It’s hard to believe that there have already been 11 events in the books for the 2013-14 season, but the Pebble Beach Pro-Am marks the 12th event of the season. This event features a field of 156 golfers that includes several of the top amateurs in the game as well as some A-list celebrities (Kevin Costner & Jerry Rice). The event will take place on 3 different courses over the first 3 days and the final round will be played on the Pebble Beach Golf Links course.
This event will feature a cut after the first 3 days after each player has taken their turn on each course. The cut will be for the top 60 pro’s and ties and the top 25 amateurs will also make the cut. While a 3-day cut makes it a little less important for your golfers to make the cut, it’s still the biggest factor to consider when putting your lineup together.
Pebble Beach Pro-Am – DK Projections
I’m hoping to get back on track with the picks this week. The picks have been very successful in the past and we will hopefully have a great week of picks. This week’s picks are for DraftKings, as I mentioned in last week’s article, I am going to switch back and forth from DS & DK picks each week and cover both sites for the majors.
- Jason Day: $10,300 – This will only be Day’s second event of the season, but he didn’t show any signs of rust in his first event as he tied for 2nd at the Farmer’s Insurance open a couple of weeks ago. Day is one of the best players in the game and is the odds on favorite to win this week’s Pro-Am. He played very well in this event last year with a 13-under which was good enough for a 6th place finish. I have high hopes for him this week and think he will be in contention come Sunday afternoon.
- Jimmy Walker: $9,800 – All signs are pointing to a strong finish from Walker this week. He is already leading the tour in victories this season with 2 and he has a fantastic history at this event. He has finished in the top 10 in each of the last 3 years at this event and finished with a 14-under, 3rd place finish last year. Look for Walker to make a push for another top 10 finish again this week.
- Patrick Reed: $8,500 – Reed is playing some great golf right now. He won at the Humana Challenge a few weeks ago and then finished strong in last week’s event with a 19th place finish last week. Reed played well in this event last year as he shot a 12-under which was good enough for a 7th place finish. Reed is a dark horse to win this event this week as he has some great odds at only 33/1. He’s not a household name, but he should make some noise this week.
- Matt Every: $8,200 – A lot of these events early in the season feature some very low scores. You need to target players that can make birdies and there are few better on tour that can string birdies together like Every. Every played pretty well last season in this event as he finished with a 5-under par which was tied for 30th. Every is coming into this event with 37th or better finishes in each of his last 5 events.
