Wednesday, January 24th
Today is the calm before the storm with just two games on deck, followed by a massive 15-game slate on Thursday, as we head into the National Hockey League All-Star break. The Calgary Flames and the Chicago Blackhawks are tonight’s favorites, and the Los Angeles Kings are the only team playing on consecutive nights.

Mike Smith, Calgary Flames – We do not really have a lock tonight in goal, but with the Calgary Flames being the biggest favorite on the board, and with the way Mike Smith has been playing lately (1.68 GAA and a .949 SV% in seven January games), he becomes the top option in net for your cash game lineup. After a great start to the 2017-18 season, the Los Angeles Kings have taken a turn for the worse, losing seven of their last eight games, while averaging just 2.44 goals per game this month, good for 24th overall in the National Hockey League. With Smith’s results in January, and with the way the Kings are struggling on offense, I just can’t see Los Angeles doing much offensive damage this evening. Smith may not be the highest scoring goalie tonight, but he is certainly the safest.
