PGA Championship Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Xander Schauffele

This week brings us to gorgeous Charlotte, NC, where some of the world’s best golfers will compete for the PGA Championship. Things start off great but take a bit of a turn going into the weekend, with wind and rain possible on Saturday.

As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

PGA Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, May 15th

Starting off near perfect. Dry with light AM winds, picking up to a bit over 10 mph in the afternoon and gusts around 15 mph.

Friday, May 16th

Another solid day, with just a low chance of a stray shower. Winds likely peak in the afternoon around 10mph.

Saturday, May 17th

Things get a bit uglier for the weekend. First, rain moves in. Scattered showers and storms are possible, with winds picking up as well. Currently, I have winds forecast to peak around 15 mph sustained, but gusts will climb over 20mph.

Sunday, May 18th

Lower rain chances and lighter winds.

PGA Championship Weather Thoughts

While we do have at least one day which looks “weather-ish,” I don’t think we have a clear path here to find a weather advantage. Both Thursday and Friday look great for golf, so I don’t think AM/PM waves will have much of an impact through the first 2 days of the tournament.
