PGA DFS Core Plays - DraftKings & FanDuel: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS plays at various salary ranges for the coming week’s golf tournament. Who should you be building around? Find out below.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
You know, DFS is always a tough balance between relying on projections and going off the board a bit. My model loved Max Homa and Keegan Bradley last week and I decided to fade them both in my main lineup. I liked Will Zalatoris over Homa and was worried about the form for Bradley after a bad showing in Hawaii. Ultimately, they finished one-two at Torrey Pines. At least Jason Day was good. I have a feeling he will be featured in this article quite often in the coming weeks.
While the Farmers Insurance Open wasn’t the best week of DFS for yours truly, it’s still one of my favorite venues on the PGA Tour. Golf architecture enthusiasts aren’t a fan of Torrey Pines for whatever reason, but the course challenges the professionals and always produces a star-studded leaderboard. When you add in the great views and some risk/reward holes down the stretch, that’s really all we can ask for as golf fans.
Admittedly, I am not overly excited about the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week. I am a simple man. All I ask for in life is Shot Tracker and a Friday cut sweat. We will only have Shot Tracker one of the three courses in play this week and the cut won’t be made until after the third round. Due to 25 pro-am teams playing the final round, the cut will be the top 60 and ties. This should lead to a very low 6/6 percentage in DFS.
Here is a quick overview of the three courses in play this week:
Pebble Beach Golf Links
- Par 72 that measures 6,972 yards
- Smallest greens on the PGA Tour
- Most exposed to wind of the three courses
Spyglass Hill Golf Course
- Par 72 that measures 7,041 yards
- Small greens, but not as small as Pebble
- Toughest of the three courses over the last five years
Monterey Peninsula Country Club
- Par 71 that measures 6,957 yards
- Average-sized greens
- Easiest of the three courses over the last five years
At the very least, the courses do share a lot of similarities. They all feature four par fives, they all measure less than 7,100 yards, and they all have poa annua greens. These similar characteristics can at least help us build a course fit. With the courses being so short, distance off the tee is not needed. There are many holes that require less than driver. I wouldn’t call this an accuracy event either though, as the rough will be down due to the pro-am format.
Two of the three courses feature small greens, which brings iron play and around the green play into the mix. And ultimately, golfers will need to make putts to find themselves in contention on Sunday. Experience doesn’t hurt, as this is one of the more unique events on the PGA Tour. The rounds will be extremely long and golfers will have to deal with the circus that comes from all the celebrities teeing it up alongside them.
