PGA DFS Core Plays - DraftKings & FanDuel: RBC Canadian Open

Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS plays at various salary ranges for the coming week’s golf tournament. Who should you be building around? Find out below.

RBC Canadian Open

Even though there is a natural let-down when a tournament is sandwiched between two big events, we have a decent field for the RBC Canadian Open. Well, let me clarify — we have a decent field up top. According to the Official World Golf Rankings, 12 of the top 25 golfers in the world are set to tee it up in Toronto this week. Unfortunately, the field really drops off after that. There is quite a difference between odds and salaries this week. For instance, a golfer that is +5000 to win is usually priced in the $7,000 or $8,000 range on DraftKings. This week, golfers at +5000 are up in the $9,000 range. This makes roster construction very interesting.

We haven’t seen St. George’s Golf and Country Club on the PGA Tour since 2010. A lot has changed since then — golfers are younger, golfers hit the ball farther, technology has changed, and this golf course has had a renovation. Personally, I am not looking at the 2010 leaderboard and I am not factoring in course history from this event. It’s really a guessing game as to how this course will play, but it’s a Par 70 that measures just over 7,000 yards. It’s very unique in the layout since there are three Par 5s and five Par 3s on the scorecard. Par adjusted, this will play as one of the shortest courses of the season.

Given the fact that the course is so short, driving distance is unlikely to play much of a factor this week. Even on the par fives, they should be reachable in two by the shorter hitters in the field. We’ve heard differing reports on what to expect off the tee. It sounds like the rough will be penal, but we’ve also heard that the fairways are generous. If golfers are hitting less than driver into generous fairways, it might not be too tricky off the tee. Approach play is always going to be critical, especially with all of the bunkering around these bentgrass greens. I would love to be wrong about this, but I am expecting more of a birdie-fest this week. The course is extremely short, there has been a lot of rain in the area the last two days, and there doesn’t appear to be much wind on the weekend.
