Memorial Tournament Preview
I thought the first few weeks were rough for the core plays, but we hit a new low at the Workday Charity Open. My golf bets and plays have always been streaky and I am clearly in the midst of a draught, but hang with me. The tides will turn soon enough. I was able to salvage the week thanks to a solid lineup in weekend contests, but I’m still searching for a good week in the main slate. Luckily, we get to wipe the slate clean and start from scratch. If you enjoyed last week’s event, then you should be excited for the Memorial Tournament since it will be held at the same course.
There will be a few changes to Muirfield Village Golf Club, as the course officials plan to grow out the rough and speed up the greens. The course should play tougher this week, especially since there isn’t any rain in the forecast leading up to Thursday. We do have a much stronger field on tap this week with most of the best golfers in the world set to tee it up. While carnage is all but assured with such a stacked field, a higher percentage of golfers will make the cut since there are only 133 in the field compared to 156 last week.
As for lineup construction this week, I’m leaning toward more of a balanced stars and scrubs build. Last week I tried to jam in Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, and Justin Rose. Unfortunately, Rose forgot how to golf and my values didn’t do enough. This week I’m looking to start my lineup with three plays in the $9,000 range. Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, Xander Schauffele, and Tiger Woods all provide great win equity here. I view them as five of the best plays of the week and plan to be overweight on all in my MME builds.
