Sanderson Farms Championship
The Ryder Cup was nothing short of amazing. While I didn’t have a great week of DFS or betting, it exceeded expectations. The course was amazing and the U.S. team really came together to quiet all of the critics. They not only secured the win, but doubled up the European Tour. There were so many great moments, but I loved Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger drinking beers from the stands and all of the pictures and videos from the after-party. After a star-studded Ryder Cup, we get back to the swing season with the Sanderson Farms Championship.
This event is held at the Country Club of Jackson, which is a Par 72 that measures over 7,400 yards. While this isn’t a short course by any means, some of that length is offset by the fact that there are four par fives. Surprisingly enough, there are more approach shots hit here from 100-125 and 125-150 yards than tour average. Off the tee, the fairways are extremely difficult to hit. While they are tree-lined, missing them isn’t overly penal. In fact, the average greens in regulation number here is much higher than tour average. This is certainly a week where distance seems to be a bigger premium than accuracy.
Each of the last four winners here have been at least 18-under par, which shows how easy the course plays (especially given the strength of each field). The greens themselves feature bermudagrass and while Sergio Garcia will try to tell you otherwise, golfers have had a fairly easy time getting the ball up and down when they have missed greens. I wouldn’t say there is a strong course fit here, but a good recipe for success has been length off the tee and putting. Good iron plays is always imperative and a good track record on bermuda greens doesn’t hurt.
