Workday Charity Open Preview
Even though I locked Bryson DeChambeau in every lineup that I made for the Rocket Mortgage Classic (60 in total), it was still a slightly losing week overall. Brandt Snedeker and Brian Harman really let me down. Snedeker started three over after his first five holes and dug himself too deep of a hole and Harman had one of his worst putting weeks ever. Again, these are to be expected in a volatile sport such as golf. This is where the mantra “trust the process” ie really tested.
For the next two weeks, we’ll be at Muirfield Village Golf Club. It’s strange having the same venue host back-to-back tournaments, but we are living in strange times. The first event will be the Workday Charity Open, which features a larger field than next week. Additionally, the rough is expected to be shorter this week and the greens are going to roll a lot slower (closer to 11 on the stimpmeter compared to 13 next week).
Muirfield Village is Par 72 that will play over 7,400 yards thanks to a few new tee boxes for this event. It is a tree-lined course that requires precision from all aspects of your game. The course isn’t particularly long by today’s standards, but the fairways are tree-lined, the rough can be penal, and water is in play on 11 of the 18 holes. If we look at historical data, fairways here are fairly easy to hit, while greens in regulation and scrambling are both well below tour average.
