If you don’t pay regular attention to the PGA Tour like myself, then you are probably surprised that the 2019-20 kicks off two weeks after the Tour Championship. Golf is not only my favorite DFS sport to sweat, but it has the shortest offseason as well. I’m excited for the new schedule, as we have two new events in the fall and the Olympics to look forward to in 2020. We start with an event that is typically one of the favorites for PGA Tour members. The Greenbrier is a resort in West Virginia where you can golf, gamble, fish, and even try your hand at falconry.
The Old White TPC is a classical tree-lined Par 70 that measures just under 7,300 yards. While this is a resort course, it certainly has some teeth to it. The fairways are wide and easy to hit, the greens are large and easy to hit, and scrambling from the rough isn’t particularly difficult compared to other events. However, the bunkers are massive and tough to scramble out of and the greens are very tricky. While slow greens typically help negate putting, the opposite is true here. With the fairways and greens both being easy to hit, this usually turns into a putting contest.
The course itself was restored in 2006, it was toughened in 2012, and then had to be rebuilt in 2016 after huge floods that caused the event to get cancelled. The whole course was re-seeded and re-contoured, but there weren’t any changes as to how the course actually plays. The fairway are tree-lined, but wide enough to give sprayers of the ball a chance off the tee. The greens are larger than tour average and made of pure bentgrass. The course is 2,000 feet above sea level, which should add a little distance to every shot.
In terms of the type of golfer, there isn’t a mold that we can follow. We’ve seen shorter hitters and longer hitters win here in the past. Your ball striking has to be good enough to avoid the nine water hazards and the large bunkers, your short game has to be good enough to avoid making bogeys, and you have to make putts to contend. I’m looking for a strong all-around golfer that’s hopefully in good form.
Cut Rule: The top 65 and ties move on after the first two rounds.
Recent Winners of this Event:Kevin Na (2018), Xander Schauffele (2017), Danny Lee (2015), Angel Cabrera (2014)
Key Statistics (In Order of Importance)

Sportsbetting Card
We ended last season with a win, but finished the year down 19 units. When you are betting on outrights, you can’t expect to be profitable every tournament. In fact, you will go through stretches where you don’t hit a winner for months. We’ll clear the scoreboard and start from scratch heading into the 2019-20 season. Given the fact that many books don’t offer top five or top 20 bets, I will stick to outrights this time around. As the season progresses, I will add in matchup bets as well. Here is the card for this week’s Military Tribute at the Greenbrier:
Viktor Hovland 14/1
Joaquin Niemann 28/1
Byeong Hun An 30/1
Russell Henley 33/1
Sebastian Munoz 80/1
