Course Notes

  • Winged Foot is a long Par 70 course with only two par fives. Only one of the par fives will be reachable by most of the field.
  • Hitting fairways will be paramount. The first cut of rough is somewhat playable, but if you miss the fairway by more than a few yards, good luck.
  • Very fast poa annua greens, but the course is in upstate New York. These won’t be the bumpy greens we see on the West coast.
  • The last U.S. Open held here was in 2006 when Geoff Ogilvy won without recording a single round under par. Phil imploded.
  • In 2006, the fairways were hard to hit (50%), the greens were hard to hit (52%), and scrambling was next to impossible (40%).
  • Every shot will be demanding, hitting fairways and precision with long irons might be the recipe for success here.
  • Only the top 60 and ties make the cut, so potentially less than 40% of the field will end up playing the weekend.

These charts are awesome, thanks for doing them every week.

Can you check the +/- for Yahoo (or maybe I am misunderstanding). Schauffele has worse odds than DJ, but Schauffele’s +/- is blue +80, which normally indicates a good price, but in this case appears inaccurate. Also Fleetwood and Day have the same odds; Fleetwood is priced higher but is blue, and Day is priced lower but is red. Seems backwards. Also the min-priced guys at the bottom usually are red, this week they are blue.

Your US Open course history chart shows years 2015 thru 2019,but US Open on this course at Winged Foot hasn’t been played there in 14 years.Did you mean the US Open history last 4 years, and not this specific Winged Foot course history? When I see a course history chart,I assume you are giving the stats of players on the course that the tournament coming up is being played at.(Winged Foot)
So years 2015-2019 on your chart is not really the course history stats, correct?

  • dfszone007

Yea i have no idea what the plus minus in different colors mean for this particular history. How do they have course history if they haven’t played in it since 2006 or something like that little confused please help @notorious

  • MRCOOKONUTS

I think he gave player results of the last 5 US Opens and not results of players stats at this course, but when I frequently read his article,
I always assumed he was giving actual history on the course being played.

Hey Noto, are you planning to correct these percentages or not?

  • andyhiggs

Yes, he normally gives the results for a specific course, but for events like this he gives the results for the event since it obviously changes every year and history at this specific course would be worthless.

The +/- for the sites are definitely messed up.

Looking into the % columns now. As noted in the header, the course history is from the US Open over the last five years.

Hey the +/- for DK are backwards… the more red/yellow the better the pricing. I’ve been looking at this for a couple days and just now figured it out. Should probably fix that.
