RBC Canadian Open
Hello, Grinders! Welcome to another edition of GPP picks for the upcoming RBC Canadian Open! This tournament has moved from the usual late July date on the calendar to early June for 2019, and it is still right next to a major tournament on the schedule. However, it’s now just before the U.S. Open as opposed to just after The Open Championship (in Europe), so we therefore have a stronger field this week. Keep an eye out for possible field changes, as some golfers who open qualified for the U.S. Open on Monday might end up withdrawing before roster lock.
In addition to a new date on the calendar, we also have a course change for this event in 2019. Glen Abbey had been the host course for most of the recent years, but Hamilton Golf and Country Club takes the hosting duties for the first time since 2012. Therefore, we don’t have much course history to look out for this week. Hamilton is a traditional par 70 course that measures under 7,000 yards on the scorecard. It’s a “shot making” course with plenty of dog legs that require shaping off the tee. As usual on these types of courses, ball striking and approach play reign supreme. I’ll also give a nice bump to golfers who have a history here, especially if they played well in 2012.
