Rocket Mortgage Classic
Greetings, PGA Grinders! After three scintillating tournaments coming out of the break, the strength of the golf field finally takes a step back for the upcoming Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club. However, though the field might not be quite as strong as it was the last three weeks, we should still expect plenty of scoring. The cut line came in at five under par a year ago, marking the lowest score needed in order to make a cut for the entire 2019-2020 season. Nate Lashley rode a hot putter on his way to a runaway victory at -25, and he was a deserving winner.
There is going to be some variance in golf in the near term. Some golfers remain rusty, and a ton of chalk golfers (Scottie Scheffler, Billy Horschel, Tony Finau, and Gary Woodland) all missed the cut a week ago. There is definitely merit toward playing lower-owned options in GPPs, and that is even more true in shootout formats where someone can ride a hot putter to a win. Doc Redman was a Monday qualifier for last year’s debut and finished in second place!
