Sentry Tournament of Champions
Happy New Year, Grinders! As is always the case with the first week of January, I have three words for you:
Golf.
Is.
Back.
Yes! Our favorite fantasy game returns for the start of the new year, and it’s just in time, as the NFL regular season is winding down this week. As usual, we start things off with the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua in Hawaii. This is a fairly lengthy par 73 track (four par fives but only three par threes), but you will see plenty of distance on shots at this event given the thin air and the layout in Hawaii. There are plenty of downhill hole setups, and you will see some BOMBS off the tee. The most important factor is this: in most seasons, this course has played as the easiest on Tour in relation to par. The fairways are wide, the pin locations are accessible, and the par fives are very scoreable. Every single golfer finished at least seven strokes under par here a year ago, and a whopping 18 golfers (out of 38 in the field) finished at -20 or better. Birdies, birdies, and more birdies are the name of the game at Kapalua. High winds are the only real defense the course can offer, and the current weather forecasts are calling for 13-18 MPH winds all weekend. Though those forecasted winds are higher than last year, that is relatively mild by Hawaii standards, so we should still see plenty of scoring opportunities.
