The CJ Cup
Welcome back to the PGA DFS GPP breakdown! We have another no cut event with 78 golfers in the field this week, so the general lineup building logic will apply that we discussed last week. The one difference for this week is that we have a much stronger field assembled in South Carolina for The CJ Cup. This should be one of the most exciting tournaments of the fall swing.
Part of the reason why this tournament will be exciting is because of the unique venue at Congaree Golf Club. This is a long, 7,600+ yard par 71 course. It played as one of the most difficult courses on Tour when it hosted the one-off Palmetto Championship two years ago, but it’s not because the course is inherently impossible to conquer. In fact, it will yield quite a few birdie and eagle looks, and there is virtually no rough on the property. What makes it difficult, then? Well, there are plenty of waste bunkers, water hazards, and problematic spots around the greens if you find yourself short-sided. There will be a lot of variance in scores around this place, which is part of what adds to the fun. The course rewards good shots and punishes poor ones… just like golf should be!
