WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

Greetings, Grinders! We are going to split up our golf content between the Corales Championship and the WGC-Dell Match Play event this week, but I am going to focus on the Match Play with this article. We’ll keep you covered with LineupHQ and FanDuel CVR for the Corales Championship, and Notorious will be providing his model for that event as well. Since the Match Play event has a different format than other PGA Tour events, here’s a brief overview of how things go:

1) This is a bracket style event, consisting of 16 groups of four golfers each.

2) Each group will play head to head, round-robin style on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

3) The top finisher from each group will make the final 16.

4) Those 16 golfers will then play head-to-head in a single elimination format on Saturday and Sunday, with the group 1 winner facing the group 16 winner, the group 8 winner facing the group 9 winner, etc… (just like the NCAA tournament bracket, but without regard to whether the top seed wins those groups).

5) Golfers who get eliminated in the group stage only get three matches. Golfers who make the semifinals and finals/3rd place match will get seven matches. Therefore, it is imperative to get your golfers out of the group stage.
