World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship
The PGA Tour heads to Mexico this week for the first World Golf Championships event of the 2019 calendar year. The Club de Golf Chapultepec will be hosting for the third straight year, so we do have some course history data starting to build. Even though this looks like a lengthy par 71 course, it doesn’t play to that length because the course sits at an elevation of over 7,000 feet above sea level. You will see a lot of golfers take less than driver off the tee on virtually everything other than the par fives this week. It’s definitely not a course where distance is paramount. This tournament will all be about approach play and short game. However, it is worth noting that Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson have won the first two editions of this event at this course, and they are certainly not “short” off the tee.
It’s rare that I prioritize short game with my DFS builds, but I will be doing that at this course. Guys who hit fairways and greens in regulation will be at a nice advantage, and then it comes down to making some putts. These greens have been very tricky over the last few years, and we will see a LOT of three putts around Chapultepec. It’s another feather in the cap to prioritizing that short game play this week, and scrambling will be another angle that I look at.
With the housekeeping out of the way, let’s take a look at some of my top GPP picks!
