Top that, Wyndham Championship! We are coming off an incredible Sunday at the PGA Championship, and 23 year-old Collin Morikawa ended it with a BANG thanks to his eagle at the drive-able par four 16th hole. As I stated in this space last week, he is simply something special. All indications are that he is going to be a top talent on the PGA Tour for a long time. Might he be this generation’s Tiger Woods? It’s not a far-fetched question.
As for this week’s event, we have to switch gears to expect a birdie fest at Sedgefield Country Club for the Wyndham Championship. This is a relatively easy par 70 course, as it has played as one of the easier par 70 tracks on Tour for the last several years. The winning score has checked in at either -21 or -22 in each of the last four editions of this event. It is worth noting that accuracy does take on some importance at this course, as the green in regulation numbers dip substantially for golfers who miss the fairway off the tee. I will not be weighting distance at all, as you will see a lot of players club down off the tee in order to try and hit more fairways. Current form and some course history are also a plus.
