Even though we have a significantly smaller field on our hands this week, we had plenty of carnage in the first round. Even with 79 golfers inside the cut line at the moment, less than 10% of lineups have the incredibly rare 6-of-6 feat. That will obviously change after Friday’s round and could honestly get worse if there are only 65-70 golfers that make the cut. My lineups actually aren’t dead after the first round, which is a nice change of pace.
There was a lot of talk about a potential weather edge again this week, but for the second straight event at Muirfield Village it never came to fruition. The morning wave averaged 73.8 and the afternoon wave averaged 74.0. While weather is important to monitor, it can always change on a dime and shouldn’t be the number one factor in your lineup making decisions. As for tomorrow, the course should be firmer but there is little to no wind in the forecast. I have the slightest of leans to the golfers going out in the morning only because these greens will be extremely slick (and tough to hold) late in the day.
