There is no way around it, the picks for round two were pretty brutal. Jon Rahm and Tony Finau had nice rounds, but the other four had a real hard time out there. We’ll start with Paul Casey, who recorded an eight on a par three. The worst part is that he fought back to +2 and then bogeyed two of his final holes to miss the cut by one. Tiger Woods looked stiff all day and had a bad round, but he did go birdie-birdie-par on his last three to make the cut. Hideki Matsuyama and Justin Rose started bad, played bad in the middle, and ended bad.
Luckily, we have showdown and weekend contests to look forward to. Projections for both slates are posted in LineupHQ. All you need to do is click on the right slate and then click on the right set of projections. In terms of waves, we saw a 0.4 stroke edge for the morning group on both Thursday and Friday. We have very little wind in the forecast for Saturday, but the course will be even firmer and even faster. The earliest tee times will have a slightly easier course, but those golfers obviously weren’t great the first two rounds. We won’t have split tees, so there is a six hour difference between the first and last tee times.
