PGA DFS Core Plays: Hero World Challenge
Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS picks at various salary ranges for this week’s tournament. Who should you be building around? Find out below.
We have an exhibition event on tap this week, but one that features Tiger Woods and some of the best golfers in the world. The sites have some hefty prize pools, and you know I’m always in the mood to talk about Tiger, so we had to bring you a Core Plays article. After this, we’ll be back for the Tournament of Champions in January.
There are a total of 20 golfers in the field this week, so there won’t be a cut. As long as there aren’t any injuries or illnesses, we can expect all golfers to play four rounds. This might be an exhibition, and a few might treat this as a vacation since it’s in the Bahamas, but Official World Golf Rankings points are up for grabs.
As far as the course goes, Albany is a Par 72 that measures 7,449 yards. We don’t have ShotLink data from past editions of this event, but we do have a couple of statistics to work with. Last year, golfers hit an average of 73% of the fairways and 61% of the greens in regulation. The fairways are wide, which does help those that spray the ball.
I wouldn’t call this a bomber’s course, as approach play has been critical over the years. The greens have a lot of run-off areas, which makes iron play and scrambling from the fairway important metrics. There are also four par fives that golfers can take advantage of, so Par 5 scoring is an interesting stat to look at as well.
While good course history is never a bad thing, I’m not sure it’s a prerequisite. We’ve seen a number of golfers play very well in their first appearance at this venue — Viktor Hovland won, Tony Finau finished second, and Scottie Scheffler finished second.
Note: The PGA DFS model download will be back for the Tournament of Champions.
