PGA DFS Core Plays: International Golf Event
Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS picks at various salary ranges for this week’s tournament. Who should you be building lineups around? Find out below!
We have a unique week on tap, as the only golf tournament in action is the International Golf Event taking place in France. The past two editions have featured courses that we had very little information about, but not this time around. Le Golf National in Paris has been a regular stop on the DP World Tour for more than 20 years. It also hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup, so we have a good idea of how it should play.
The course is a Par 71 that measures just under 7,200 yards. It’s a standard Par 71 layout with three par 5s and four par 3s. As you will hear time and time again in player interviews, this is not a course that can be overpowered off the tee (just ask the Americans who played in the Ryder Cup here). The fairways are narrow (28 yards on average), there are water hazards in play on 10 of the 18 holes, and the rough is tricky to play out of. When it comes to off the tee, this is more of a positional course.

In terms of difficulty, Le Golf National is routinely one of the five most difficult courses on the DP World Tour. They could opt to set it up a little easier than we typically see, but I am still expecting there to be a lot of high scores over the four days. There are only 60 golfers in the field, so the event will not feature a cut. Barring any withdrawals, all golfers are guaranteed to play all four rounds.
It’s a bit tricky on the motivation front for golfers in the field, but trying to factor that into player selection seems like a fruitless process. While some might be motivated more than others, there’s no real way to tell. And if a golfer gets off to a hot start, it’s not like they aren’t going to try to win a medal for themselves and their country. When it comes to statistics, I’m looking at Total Driving, Strokes Gained: Approach, Strokes Gained: Putting, and Bogey Avoidance.

Morikawa doesn’t have a win this season, and yet, it might be his most consistent year on the PGA TOUR. He has rattled off 10 straight top 16 finishes, which puts him right there with Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler in terms of having the highest floor when it comes to DFS. We’ve seen him win plenty on TOUR, so don’t be surprised if he adds a couple of trophies (or medals) to his trophy room (medal room?) in the next couple of months. Le Golf National is a perfect fit for his game. He’s one of the most accurate drivers of the ball on TOUR, one of the best iron players on TOUR, and he has gained strokes on and around the green in each of his last 6 events.
