PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Core Plays for the Procore Championship

A few weeks after the conclusion of the PGA TOUR season, we are back for the Procore Championship. This is the first event of the FedExCup Fall, where many golfers will try to improve their playing status for the upcoming season. This event specifically will serve as a tune-up for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, which is why we have such a good field teeing it up in Napa Valley. This event has changed sponsors several times over the years but has always been held at the North Course at the Silverado Resort and Spa.

The North Course is a par 72 that measures 7,138 yards. These days, 7,100 yards is short for a par 70 course on the PGA TOUR, let alone a par 72. Given the length of the course, the number of doglegs, and the width of the fairways (only 27 yards wide on average), this isn’t exactly a bomber-friendly course. With that said, golfers still hit driver on 68% of tee shots, so it’s not like this is completely a less-than-driver course. Ultimately, we want good total drivers of the ball this week.

The greens here are small in size (5,400 square feet) but fairly easy to hit in regulation. It’s difficult to gain strokes around the green on the field here, but that’s because the scrambling success rate is so much higher here than at most PGA TOUR venues. The greens feature a mix of bentgrass and poa annua, which is a staple in California. Ultimately, I’m looking for ball strikers who have either flashed good form recently or have good course history.

It feels weird not tagging Scottie Scheffler this week when he’s +225 to win the event, but I’m having a really tough time putting together lineups that I like with him in it. Instead, I’ll take a more balanced approach this week. Henley is one of the most accurate drivers of the ball in the world. He’s also 6th in this field in Strokes Gained: Approach and 5th in Strokes Gained Around the Green. I should mention that he’s also an elite putter. A shorter course like this should fit his game perfectly, and he comes into the week in tremendous form. He’s finished T2, T15, T17, and T10 in his last 4 starts.
