PGA DFS Core Plays: RBC Heritage
Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS picks at various price ranges for this week’s tournament. Who should you be building lineups around? Find out below!
When I woke up Monday morning, I thought I had dreamt up that Sunday of the Masters. In my mind, there was no way that what occurred actually occurred. It was so crazy that even a writer couldn’t have come up with a better ending. Rory McIlroy finally completed the career grand slam. But it was what he went through in the process that made it so great. From losing a 2-shot lead to start the day after 2 holes to losing a 5-stroke lead on the back 9. For every bad shot and putt, he came through with an even better approach shot. It took 73 holes, but McIlroy is now a Masters champion.
PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Core Plays for the RBC Heritage
We typically have a hangover the week after a major, but that’s not the case this week. We have the RBC Heritage, which is a Signature Event. It will be held at Harbour Town Golf Links, which is a par 71 that measures 7,213 yards. This course is known for being a tough test, but that hasn’t really been the case recently. In terms of difficulty, it’s been ranked 26th or easier in 4 of the last 5 years. We’ve also seen 4 of the last 5 winners shoot at least 17 under par.
This course was designed by Pete Dye. As is the case with almost all of his courses, this one can’t be overpowered off the tee. With the doglegs, the overhanging tree limbs, and the narrow fairways, this course is more about accuracy and being on the correct side of the hole. Whether you want to look at good drive percentage, driving accuracy, or total driving, I would include some sort of accuracy for your main off-the-tee metric.

The greens at Harbour Town are extremely small (3,700 square feet) and difficult to hit on average. This places a big emphasis on Strokes Gained: Approach and Strokes Gained: Around the Green. With the driver being less of a weapon this week, focusing on golfers who are elite from the fairway in is a good starting point.
With this being a Signature Event, we have a limited field of only 72 golfers. There will not be a cut, so all golfers are guaranteed to play 4 rounds. I tend to treat these events a little differently than full-field events with a cut. For starters, cut makers who don’t offer upside aren’t nearly as appealing this week. To win tournaments, we need golfers who can realistically finish in the top 10. Additionally, with a smaller field, there will be more duplicated lineups. If you are playing large-field tournaments, I recommend leaving at least $200 on the table.

I have no issue starting lineups with Scheffler this week, but I’m a tad concerned that he’s been red hot on the greens and not winning. His ball striking hasn’t been quite as crisp this year. Morikawa is my pick to win and my favorite spend. He’s one of the best total drivers of the ball in the field, he’s an elite iron player, and he’s become excellent on and around the greens. He’s posted top 10s at this event in 2 of the last 4 years and is the perfect fit for this course.
