PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Core Plays for The RSM Classic

We arrive at the final PGA TOUR event of the year, The RSM Classic. Unlike the last 2 weeks, we will have ShotTracker available for this event, at least for 3 of the 4 rounds. This event is held at 2 courses at the Sea Island Golf Club: the Seaside Course and the Plantation Course. Golfers will play each course once over the first 2 days before a cut is made. The final two rounds will be held at the Seaside Course.

Editor’s Note: For more tournament and course notes for The RSM Classic, check out this week’s PGA DFS First Look. To get access to Noto’s PGA DFS Model Breakdown & Download link, which allows you to create your own projections, click here.

The Seaside Course is a par 70 that measures 7,005 yards. While the fairways are wide (41 yards on average), golfers only hit driver on 47% of tee shots at this event last year, which was one of the lowest marks of any event on TOUR. This is certainly a less-than-driver course, which brings all types of golfers into play. The greens are average in size and fairly easy to hit in regulation when the wind is down.

We don’t have as much data on the Plantation Course, as the ShotLink machines are only used at the Seaside Course. However, the Plantation Course is a par 72 that measures 7,060 yards. Golfers can be a bit more aggressive off the tee, especially since there are 4 par 5s on the scorecard. More often than not, it plays a little easier (relative to par) than the Seaside Course.

For statistics this week, I’m looking at Total Driving, Strokes Gained: Approach, Bogey Avoidance, Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green, Strokes Gained: Putting on Bermudagrass, Strokes Gained on Less-Than-Driver Courses, and Strokes Gained on High Water Danger Courses. All of these statistics can be found in my downloadable model. Let’s end the golf year with a great week of DFS and bets!

This is the time of year when Whaley always seems to come alive. He had an elite track record at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, and he kept that going last week with a T3 finish. He’s finished T8 and T13 at this event over the last 2 years, so I’m hoping he can carry some of his positive momentum into another strong finish. His statistics don’t jump off the page at us, but he has an elite short game and has been striking the ball much better in recent weeks.
