PGA DFS Core Plays: The Sentry
Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS picks at various salary ranges for this week’s tournament. Whom should you be building lineups around? Find out below!
After a little break, we are back to break down some PGA DFS! We finally have a good field, and while we don’t have a cut, at least we’ll have ShotTracker for all four rounds. This is one of my favorite tournaments to watch because it’s 80 degrees and sunny in Hawaii, while it’s 30 degrees and snowy here in Utah.

The Plantation Course at Kapalua is a Par 73 that measures nearly 7,600 yards. Even though it seems like a long course, it doesn’t play nearly as long. Thanks to elevation changes off the tee and rolling hills in the fairway, the average driving distance here is about as long as you’ll find at any course on the PGA TOUR. Speaking of this course relative to others, this has played as the easiest course on TOUR in each of the last 4 years. Each of the last 4 winners here has shot at least 25-under par.
The course features wide fairways, massive greens, and five Par 5s. More often than not, this comes down to three factors — who can putt the best, who take advantage of the Par 5s, and who can make the most birdies without making mistakes. I suppose that recipe works well on any course, but that’s especially the case at Kapalua. There’s not a super strong course fit, as we’ve seen a mix of short and long hitters win here in the past.
One other note before we get into this week’s picks: I am going to try to be more active in the RG Discord this year. It’s free to join, and the golf channel is my personal favorite. It’s also an easy way to get in contact with me if you ever have any questions. Also, for anyone who doesn’t read the NBA Core Plays each day, I’m having a baby girl in May. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so excited. Cheers to an awesome 2025!

Tournament and Course Notes for The Sentry
- Golf is back!
- The Sentry has a field of only 60 golfers, so we don’t have a cut this week
- Always love watching this event because it’s beautiful and warm in Hawaii, while it’s cold and snowy in my neck of the woods
- We have a rare Par 73 on tap this week. It has been the easiest course on TOUR in each of the last 4 years
- Due to the elevation changes and rolling fairways, you’ll see some monster drives this week
- Many compare hitting approach shots here to Augusta (uneven lies) and there’s some correlation between winners
- The fairways are wide, the greens are massive, and birdies are made in bunches
- It often comes down to who can dominate the par 5s and/or putt the best
- Not a strong course fit- we’ve seen shorter and longer hitters win here

Pricing is awfully soft this week thanks to the withdrawals of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. I expect a lot of lineups to start with both Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa. While I don’t hate that approach, it’s going to be very common. Of the two up top, I slightly prefer Morikawa. He has played more golf in the fall and has better course history (T7 or better at this course in each of the last 5 years). He’s an elite total driver of the ball, he’s even better on approach, and he made huge strides with his short game in 2024. He’s an excellent start to lineups for both cash games and tournaments.
