PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Core Plays for the Truist Championship
It’s the week before the PGA Championship, but we shouldn’t sleep on the Truist Championship. We have a star-studded field on tap this week in Pennsylvania and a course that is getting rave reviews from the golfers and the media. We’ll cover the course more in depth, but we certainly shouldn’t expect the winning score to be 31 under par like last week in Texas. I locked Scottie Scheffler into every lineup, so it ended up being a decent week of DFS for me. What a performance he put on.
With this being a Signature Event, we will have a limited field this week with no cut. I know, I know, we would all rather have a cut, even if it was a small one. Perhaps the PGA TOUR will take note and make some adjustments to more Signature Events next week. Given my lack of interest in the 4 most expensive golfers in the field, I plan to have more balanced builds this week. Rory McIlroy is coming off the biggest win of his career, Justin Thomas is priced at a premium, and we haven’t seen the best form from Xander Schauffele or Collin Morikawa. I’m planning to be underweight on all 4 golfers.

Now let’s talk about the course. The Wissahickon Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club is a Par 70 that measures 7,119 yards. It was designed by A.W. Tillinghast and recently underwent a restoration to return the course to its original 1922 glory. Unlike most courses on the PGA TOUR, this isn’t a bomber’s course. It’s generous off the tee but requires golfers to shape their approach shots into these tricky greens. The greens are surrounded by bunkers and should be tough to hit in regulation.
We haven’t seen a professional event here since 2016 (Senior Players Championship). Bernhard Langer won with a score of +1. This has a much better field than that event, and golf has also come a long way in the last 9 years, but that score shows that this course isn’t a pushover. Without a concrete idea of what type of golfer to target, we have to do some guesswork. I’m emphasizing Strokes Gained: Approach, Strokes Gained: Around the Green, and Bogey Avoidance. Additionally, my favorite filters on the Rabbit Hole are SG: Very Strong Fields, SG: Short Par 70 Courses, and SG: Northeast & East Region Courses.

As noted in the introduction, I’m taking my chances with an underweight stance on the 4 most expensive golfers in the field. On a per-dollar basis, Conners is my favorite play of the week. He’s one of the best total drivers of the ball in the field and has long been one of the best iron players. While he’s not known for his short game, he has gained strokes around the green in 6 of his last 7 events and strokes putting in 5 of his last 7 events. If the short game shows up again, I like his chances to win this week. He’s racked up top 8 finishes in 4 of his last 6 events, which shows good incoming form.
