PGA DFS Core Plays: World Wide Technology Championship
Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS picks at various salary ranges for this week’s tournament. Who should you be building around? Find out below.
Welcome back, I hope everyone enjoyed the week off from golf. I’m excited about this week because we get to mention the name Tiger Woods and we have a new course on tap. This event was previously held at El Cameleon, but will now move to El Cardonal in Los Cabos, Mexico. This is the first time a course designed by Tiger will be played on the PGA Tour and it certainly has some unique characteristics.
The course is a Par 72 that measures 7,452 yards on the scorecard. It features four par fives and is a resort course, so we can expect some low scores. The big story here is the sheer mass of the fairways and green complexes. The fairways measure around 60 yards wide on average and the greens are 8,200 square feet on average. To put that into perspective, we are used to seeing 30 yard wide fairways and greens that are 6,500 square feet.

While the course is at sea level, it may not play as long as it looks on the scorecard. There are plenty of elevation changes and undulations that could help drives go a lot farther than they typically would. I’ve seen many comps to Kapalua (Tournament of Champions in Hawaii) and it’s hard for me to disagree with that, at least on paper. The only major difference is that these greens feature paspalum grass, which is essentially a slower version of bermuda.
With this being the first time we’ve seen this course, we don’t know exactly what type of golfer it will favor. However, the wide fairways should certainly play into the hands of bombers (as will the four par fives). Additionally, with the greens being so large and with scoring expected to be low, I can’t imagine strokes gained around the green playing a huge role this week. Greens should be relatively easy to hit in regulation, which places a bigger emphasis on approach play and putting.
