PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Core Plays for the World Wide Technology Championship
After a week off, we are back at it for the World Wide Technology Championship. I mention this every fall — this is the time of year when a little extra research can pay huge dividends because most DFS players are focusing more on the other major spots. In hindsight, we should have had more interest in Michael Brennan, who had 3 wins and 2 other top-5 finishes in his last 6 events on the PGA TOUR Americas. It was good to see Rico Hoey at the top of the leaderboard as well, but he couldn’t catch Brennan on Sunday.

This week’s event will be held in Los Cabos, Mexico. This is the 3rd year that El Cardonal Golf Course has hosted the event. If this edition is anything like the first two, we can expect a lot of birdies to be made. The course is a par 72 that measures 7,452 yards. It’s a unique course in that the fairways are 60 yards wide on average, and the greens are 8,300 square feet on average. In 2024, golfers hit 90% of fairways and 79% of greens in regulation.
You have to rack up birdies in bunches to contend at this event. The winning scores of the last 2 events here have been -24 and -27. An early look at the forecast shows very little wind to worry about this week. If that holds, we can expect some extremely low scores once again. I’m looking for birdie makers, strong tee-to-green golfers, and good putters. The one statistic that I’m not factoring in this week is around the green, as golfers won’t need to scramble often given how large the greens are.

I know J.J. Spaun has been in great form and won a major this year, but I consider Ben Griffin the class of this week’s field. He’s gone from being a good short game player to being elite in all four of the Strokes Gained categories. He’s already won twice this year and has finished T12 or better in 4 of his last 5 events. He’s 1st in this field in Strokes Gained on very easy courses and Strokes Gained on courses with high greens in regulation rates. He’s played here twice and has finished in the top 25 both times.
