PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Core Plays for the Wyndham Championship
I am officially back from paternity leave, which means my Showdown golf articles and projections will be back this week and every week moving forward. I will also be back on the PGA DFS show that goes live Tuesday nights at 7:15 PM ET. If you can’t catch it live, it will always be available for playback.
This week, we have the Wyndham Championship, which used to be a part of the FedExCup. The event doesn’t garner nearly as good a field anymore, as it’s stuck in a bad spot in the PGA TOUR schedule. It’s not the worst field of the year, but it’s headlined by the likes of Keegan Bradley, Ben Griffin, and Matt Fitzpatrick. With a lack of win equity at the top of the board, the pricing is going to feel a bit softer than usual.

Sedgefield Country Club is a par 70 that measures 7,131 yards. It features narrow fairways, which is why many opt to club down off the tee. The field only used driver on 52% of tee shots at this event in 2024, which is well below the TOUR average. It’s also worth noting that the Greens in Regulation (GIR) rate from the fairway was 83% last year, so hitting fairways is much more important than bombing it off the tee.
The greens at Sedgefield are average in size (6,000 square feet) and feature bermudagrass. With the GIR rate so high at this event, I’m focusing more on approach play and putting than on around-the-green play. The winning score will likely be in the 20-under-par range. The recipe for me is fairly simple this week — I want golfers who are accurate off the tee, who are good on approach, and who can putt well on bermuda greens.

Griffin is the top golfer in my model this week. While he’s missed back-to-back cuts, they were both on the number. One shot better and a good weekend, and his recent form would look a lot better. Prior to the missed cuts, he had 6 straight top 15 finishes, including a win. He’s accurate off the tee, he’s elite on approach, he’s good around the green, and he’s an excellent putter. If you like course history like me, he’s finished in the top 10 at this event in 2 of the last 3 years.
