Charles Schwab Challenge
Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?
STLCardinals84: Only two holes on this course (both of the par fives) averaged more than a tenth of a stroke under par last year. The course played almost a stroke over par on average. This is not an easy place to play, and rust will play a factor with the long layoff for a lot of these golfers. Don’t be surprised if there are some popular golfers that miss the cut. This is a great week to go against the grain in tournaments.
redkacheek: This golf course being 7200 yards and a par 70, isn’t necessarily “short” but due to the design of the course, you can’t really overpower Colonial (although Rahm does try every year). Personally, when I read 55% Driving Accuracy and 62% GIR, I want to target guys who tend to outperform the field in GIR. Weighted GIR helps me weigh short and long courses equally against the field’s performance. With this I can see that even though Rory does gain a lot of strokes Off-The-Tee, he is still 15% higher than the next best in this field in terms of wGIR. This is a small example, but focus on 2nd shot statistics this week. This will help narrow your player pool down appropriately to those most likely to contend.
