PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for the Baycurrent Classic

Who is your favorite golfer to spend up for in cash games?

Notorious: Collin Morikawa
stlcardinals84: Xander Schauffele
Jbails26: Xander Schauffele
hondizzle: Xander Schauffele

Who is your favorite golfer (when considering price, key stats, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Collin Morikawa – I’ve been overweight on Morikawa at every event over the last few months. He was somewhat unlucky early in the year. He picked up a win at Pebble Beach and had some of the best form of anyone heading into THE PLAYERS Championship. Unfortunately, he tweaked his back and had to withdraw. He couldn’t play much golf over the next few months, which really derailed his year. However, he’s back to playing a normal schedule, and he’s posted top-20 finishes in 5 of his last 6 events. He’s accurate off the tee, an elite iron player, and an above-average putter. He won the ZOZO Championship in Japan in 2023, so he clearly feels comfortable playing in this part of the world.

stlcardinals84: Hideki Matsuyama – Matsuyama is projected as one of the lowest-owned golfers at the top of the board in a home game in Japan. In the lead up to the late summer TOUR Championship, he also rattled off a string of 6 straight starts with finishes of T14 or better. He also held his own with a 2-2 record in the Presidents Cup last month. The form is solid, the course fit is obviously solid, he will be comfortable here, and the ownership will be lower than many other top plays. What’s not to like?

Jbails26: Ryan Gerard – At his price point, he can fit into any build you’re looking to make. This course isn’t super tight, but super-erratic tee shots could leave you in the trees. That shouldn’t be a huge issue for Gerard, as he ranks 15th in the field in Driving Accuracy over his last 50 rounds. He can also gain strokes throughout the bag and ranks 5th in Data Golf’s True Total Strokes Gained. He has gained over 1.5 strokes on approach in each of his last 2 events, so hopefully he can keep those irons dialed in at this no-cut event.

hondizzle: Xander Schauffele – Schauffele is expensive, but he is easily my favorite overall play this week. He returns as the defending champion at Yokohama, he has a great history playing in Japan, and he carries the most win equity in this field. In a no-cut event, I’m willing to pay up for 4 guaranteed rounds from the golfer I trust most to contend. The salary makes roster construction tougher, but I like enough value below him to make it work. Schauffele will be the starting point for a lot of my builds.
