PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for the RBC Canadian Open

Who is your top contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Adam Scott – He’s currently checking in with ownership projections of 10% on DraftKings and 11% on FanDuel. With many opting to play Rory McIlroy, the next level of golfers is getting skipped in a lot of builds. Scott has finished in the top 30 in 8 of 11 events on the PGA TOUR this season and is one of the few golfers in the field who is above tour average in all four of the strokes gained categories. All he needs is for all four parts of his game to fire on the same week and he’ll find himself in contention again. Many players have described this as a classical golf course, and Scott has an excellent track record on a lot of those.

stlcardinals84: Kevin Tway – It has been a long time since we have seen Tway have extended success on the PGA TOUR, and so his recent run of success might be creeping up on us all without anyone realizing. Until now, perhaps? Tway has made the cut in each of the four PGA TOUR events he has played over the past two months, and three of those have been top-25 finishes. He got in the field as an alternate after Chris Gotterup withdrew, and he’s playing with a lot of confidence right now. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks 8th in this field in total strokes gained. He’s priced as a punt play and will likely carry sub-5% ownership too.

hondizzle: Alex Noren- I like to rank players each week in how they perform in terms of DK scoring versus the field. I find this gives me a bit more information than just how the golfer finished in relation to score. Sometimes you can get a player outperforming his finish position due to a great week in overall DK points. Since The Players Championship, Alex Noren has finished inside the top 75% or better five out his six starts. Noren is trending much lower than the guys around him in terms of projected ownership. I like the use of Noren in all formats this week.

ezellmt: Aaron Rai – I had tabbed Rai as a great target coming into the week, and then I saw his price tag and was scared away. I think many will feel this way, leading to middling ownership. As someone who played him last week, I can warn you that his putting was disgusting, as he lost almost five strokes with the flat stick. His ball striking was superb, as he gained nearly two strokes per round. If he can manage to keep up the ball striking while just being average with the putter, a top-10 performance is well within reach.

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
