Who is your favorite golfer (when considering price, key stats, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Jake Knapp – I’ve been waiting for Knapp to show some signs of life after struggling with a thumb injury. At last week’s 3M Open, he shot -9 on Sunday to vault up the leaderboard and finish in the top 15. He gained over 10 strokes ball striking, which is encouraging moving forward. Detroit Golf Club has been a bomber’s paradise over the years, and while the course has undergone a restoration, I still expect Driving Distance to play a big role. Knapp is a bomber off the tee and one of the best iron players in the field. He’s also a solid putter.
stlcardinals84: Chris Gotterup – Once again, it feels like Gotterup is getting slighted by the golf community. I am not sure what else he needs to do to prove himself as an elite golfer on the PGA TOUR. He now has 5 career wins, including 3 of them in 2026. He won the John Deere Classic at the start of this month and even went T11 and T18 in the European stretch on links courses that aren’t exactly an elite fit for his game. The all-around skill set has really come around, and he now ranks 4th in this field in Total Strokes Gained, 6th off the tee, and 10th in ball striking over the last 36 rounds. Keep riding the wave of hot form.
Jbails26: Ryan Gerard – I like Gerard at his price point because he can fit into any type of build. He can sometimes struggle around the greens (basically neutral in Strokes Gained), but that’s not that important here. Gerard is coming off a 9th-place finish at The Open Championship, and he has 3 top-10 finishes across his last 6 events. I think this is a course he can easily excel at. Overall, he ranks 15th in Data Golf’s True Total Strokes Gained over his last 50 rounds.
hondizzle: Cameron Young – Young is one of the most-talented players in this field, and the changes to Detroit Golf Club only reinforce that for me. Converting two of the par 5s into par 4s places even more value on elite ball striking and the ability to gain an advantage off the tee. Young is one of the longest drivers on the PGA TOUR, which should give him shorter approach shots into holes that will now play more difficult for the field. He has already proven he can contend against the strongest fields in the world, and in an event without many of the game’s elite players, his talent level stands out even more. If he putts anywhere near the field average, he has all the tools to be one of the best players in this tournament and a legitimate win candidate.
