PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for the Rocket Mortgage Classic

Who is your top contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Justin Lower – I ultimately expect him to come in with higher ownership than the 1% we currently have him projected as, but I still expect him to be in the single digits. He currently rates out as the 16th best play in my model, which is startling given the fact that he’s the 50th most expensive on DraftKings and the 47th most expensive on FanDuel. He has gained on approach in 12 of his last 14 events, he has gained around the green in 10 of his last 13 events, and he is a splash putter (capable of gaining 3+ strokes any given week). He also seems to love this course, as he’s finished T8 and T30 here the last two years.

stlcardinals84: Doug Ghim – It wasn’t too long ago that Ghim was a chalky DFS option at prices much higher than what we see this week. The form has obviously dipped since that time frame, but Ghim is still a very talented golfer compared to a lot of players in this underwhelming field. He is priced as a value everywhere, yet he still has respectable ranks of 19th in this field off the tee and 8th on approach over the last 36 rounds. He is going to give himself plenty of birdie chances, and he at least has plenty of data on this course, having played in each of the first four editions. At sub-10% ownership, he’s my favorite GPP value option this week.

JBails26: Robert MacIntyre – This is a gross field, and a lot of the players are bunched up in pOWN%. In our early run of ownership projections, Bobby Mac looks like an intriguing pivot off the chalkier Mav McNealy and Aaron Rai in that pricing tier. MacIntyre doesn’t stand out in any single metric, but he’s fairly solid all around. Overall, he ranks 18th in my mixed condition model on the Rabbit Hole from Betsperts Golf.

hondizzle: Ryan Fox- The whole signature event series creates some very ugly weeks on the tour. While this field contains some pretty decent players, the overall feel for me is a ton of uncertainty. When possible, I want to embrace upside at low ownership. A large majority of players in the field are very much unproven. Ryan Fox qualifies as one of those talented players waiting for his breakthrough. I like length this week and the ability to make a ton of bridies. Fox is one of the longer players on tour and has shown the ability to really take it deep at times. Projected ownership under 10% seems like a good spot to take a shot on a guy who has the talent to win this week.

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
