Who is your favorite contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Max Greyserman – Even though he has never played this event and rarely plays in fields with this much talent, it’s hard to ignore how well he’s played over the last 6 months. He’s finished runner-up in 3 of his last 6 starts on TOUR. He’s 2nd in this field in Strokes Gained: Putting and 5th in Birdie or Better % over the last 12 months. As we know, you have to make birdies in bunches to contend at this course (it’s been the easiest course on TOUR in each of the last four years).

stlcardinals84: J.T. Poston – Poston is not the longest hitter or the flashiest golfer on TOUR these days, and he gets almost zero mainstream media buzz. That tends to keep him flying under the radar in DFS, and we have him projected in the single digits for ownership percentage this week. That is significant in a field with 60 golfers. His elite short game can allow him to get hot on courses like the one we have here, and he also has plenty of history at the event, with a career-best T5 finish a year ago. If he gets hot with the flat stick, he can absolutely contend.

JBails26: Harry Hall – At $6,800 on DraftKings, I think more people are going to be drawn to Eric Cole ($6,900) or Aaron Rai ($6,700), so Hall makes for the perfect pivot in this range. Hall rates out well in most metrics I am weighing, including 1st in Birdie or Better % and 2nd in Par-5 Birdie or Better % over his last 50 rounds. While he ranks 22nd and 23rd in Driving Distance and Strokes Gained: Approach, that’s still not bad for the 41st-most-expensive-golfer on DraftKings. Or maybe I am just wishcasting because I have 32% Hall in my Underdog Fantasy Best Ball drafts.

hondizzle: Will Zalatoris – The somewhat long layoff is over, and golf is finally back. The time between competitive rounds will be different for most in the field, but it’s fair to say most golfers will not have played an important round of golf in the last 60 days. I am still very bullish on the talent of Will Zalatoris in the long run. Every tournament played since his back surgery and swing change should amount to progression for Zalatoris. Despite the field size and the need to cram in some value-priced golfers, the DFS community has really turned its back on Zalatoris. If healthy, I think Zalatoris will be a steal in terms of both price and ownership early in the season. He has all the tools to play well at this course, and I think from a narrative point of view, we could see Zalatoris motivated to prove that he belongs in the conversation of great young golfers on TOUR.

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
