PGA DFS Round 4 Showdown Picks: DraftKings Expert Survey for the PGA Championship

Who is your top contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Rory McIlroy – If you are building multiple lineups, I love the idea of getting exposure to McIlroy. How many times have we seen this exact situation play out over the last 10 years? He’ll have one bad round at the major that takes him out of contention, but he’ll bounce back with one of the lowest rounds on Sunday to backdoor a top-10 finish. It’s a tale as old as time. He’s one of the best golfers in the world, his ball striking has been solid this week, and he’s not going to garner much ownership given the high price point and lack of win equity.

hondizzle: Rory Mcllroy – He has a high price tag and is far enough back that it would take a miracle to win. This however does not mean that Rory has no upside in terms of shooting the lowest round of the day. In an article I read earlier in the week, Rory stated how much fun he had playing golf with Tom Kim. It just so happens that Kim is his playing partner for the final round. This is obviously a narrative-driven thing, but I liked Rory to start the week and think he has a ton of upside.

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
