PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for THE PLAYERS Championship
Who is your top contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Eric Cole – I’m not sure this will hold, but we currently have him projected for less than 5% ownership on both FanDuel and DraftKings. If you look strictly at strokes gained on approach, around the green, and putting, Cole is a top-10 golfer in this field. The driver has always been his biggest weakness, but that’s not as big of a concern this week. Accuracy is more important than distance, and Cole is 53rd in driving accuracy this year. He’s a great fit for the course and finished T27 here last year. He’s coming off a T21 at Bay Hill, which is not a good course for his skill set. I like his chances to finish in the top 20 this week.
STLCardinals84: Tommy Fleetwood – Okay, so last week was an unmitigated disaster for Fleetwood, but it was really just the Friday round. He blasted three straight water balls on a par 5 and made a 10, and that was pretty much the beginning of the end at that point. The good news is that poor round is likely going to drive ownership even lower this week. In GPP builds, I’m back for the pain. Fleetwood LEADS this field in total strokes gained over field average in the last 5 PLAYERS Championship events. Despite his general struggles on American soil, this is a fantastic spot to buy low on a course where he really has played well. Shhhhhh.
Jbails26: Max Homa – Our early run of ownership projections has Homa projected for under 10%. This piques my interest for him, as Homa can gain strokes throughout the bag. In fact, he ranks 6th in my mixed-condition model on the Rabbit Hole. Homa gained most of his strokes putting the last two weeks, but he was still positive with his irons. If Homa can dial in his irons even more this week, I really like this spot at single-digit projected ownership.
hondizzle: Viktor Hovland – While I understand that recent form should be something we look at in terms of player evaluations, I often feel that we should do a deeper dive into the reasons behind the form. While Viktor Hovland has not done much to really impress this season (by a tough grading standard), he is not really in what you would consider to be bad form. Hovland switched coaches this off-season (Joseph Mayo to Grant Waite) and has probably struggled to adjust to whatever small changes were made up to this point. I personally don’t think Hovland is that far away, and I will always value his upside, especially at a low ownership number.
