PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for the Texas Children’s Houston Open

Who is your top contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Nate Lashley – It’s gross how well Lashley rates out for me this week. I have him projected as the 25th-best golfer in the field, yet he’s the 69th most expensive on DraftKings and the 70th most expensive on FanDuel. His form has been all over the place this year, as he has two top-15 finishes and five missed cuts. Surprisingly, his statistics are all pretty strong across the board. It’s rare to see a golfer this cheap that has the ability to gain in all four categories (OTT, APP, ATG, PUTT). I like the upside that he offers in this weak field and the fact that he’s projecting for sub-6% ownership.

STLCardinals84: Joseph Bramlett – I think the difference makers this week are going to come from the value range. Given the way the field drops off and how much ownership is going to congregate on the top plays, your lineups could be solely dependent on how your value plays perform. Bramlett is definitely a player I will be overweight on this week, especially given his low projected ownership and good fit for this course. I am playing the bomber angle this week, and per the Rabbit Hole tool from BetSperts Golf, we can see that Bramlett ranks 18th in this field in driving distance and 7th in carry distance over the last 20 rounds. He has plenty of talent and is coming off a strong T17 finish last week as well.

Jbails26: Tony Finau – With the four golfers in the $10,000+ range soaking up most of the pOWN%, Finau’s ownership should get held in check. Our early run of ownership projections has him around 11%. He fits the bomber mold for this course, and he ranks 4th in Strokes Gained: Approach over his last 50 rounds per the Rabbit Hole from Betsperts Golf.

hondizzle: Tony Finau – I typically shy away from picking the defending champion, but the low ownership numbers on Tony Finau this week are just too appealing. It’s not hard to get Scottie plus one other strong golfer in your rosters on DK this week. Currently, Finau is projected for almost half the ownership of any top-end golfer you could pair with Scottie (or another top-end spend). In my opinion, there is not a strong enough justification for this type of ownership, so I will have more exposure than the field to Mr. Finau. I love guys who can move it out there with the driver this week, and Tony Finau is still one of the best drivers on tour. I also think Finau comes in with a bit more focus as he prepares to both defend a title as well as sharpen his game for The Masters.

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
