Who is your favorite contrarian pairing (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Rai / Theegala – Predicting ownership this week is tricky, but we currently have this duo projected for only 12% ownership. It hasn’t been the best year for Theegala, but Rai has been playing some great golf. He picked up a win in the fall and has posted 4 top-15 finishes in his last 10 events. He seems like the perfect partner for a team event because he’s accurate off the tee and an elite iron player. These two have never played together, but they have played this event with other partners in each of the last 3 years.

stlcardinals84: Ghim / C. Kim – Our early ownership projections have Ghim & Kim in the single digits, and I like them as a contrarian value tandem with upside. Kim has been playing very strong golf of late, with two straight top-10 finishes on his resume, while Ghim is a great ball striker who simply can’t connect as often as he should with the putter. I think this duo will perform very well in the best-ball rounds, and they have top-10 potential if they can hole enough putts.

Jbails26: Hoge / Horschel – Contrarian will be relative in this condensed field, but our early run of pOWN% has this group at around 9% pOWN% and their optimal rate around 10.5%, suggesting they’re going a little bit underowned. At the time of writing this, with some of the other pairings around them, I think they could go somewhat overlooked.

hondizzle: Clark / Moore – Playing the ownership game will be a little harder this week due to the nature of the 2-man format. In my opinion, there will be more casual interest in building rosters than on a normal week. This means I think more people will gravitate toward McIlroy / Lowry roster builds. For that reason, I think ownership on other top teams like Clark / Moore could see a dip in ownership. Predicting or handicapping a normal week with just one player is a hard task; I think it’s even harder to figure out how teams will mesh in terms of compatibility. I like both players and think getting a discount in pOWN% makes this a good spot to attack.

He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
