PGA DFS Round 4 Showdown Picks: DraftKings Expert Survey for the U.S. Open
Who is your top contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Tommy Fleetwood – Even though he’s currently sitting T35, this is the perfect spot for a backdoor top 10. He tends to play his best when the conditions are tough and we can expect exactly that on Sunday. The fact that he’s so far down the leaderboard and expensive is going to keep his ownership down.
Jbails26: If you’re looking to mix in some non-Bryson DeChambeau lineups, Xander Schauffele (T12) is intriguing. He struggled in Round 3, but now that he’s out of contention, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him bounce back in Round 4 and add another vanity top 5 to his resume. However, I wouldn’t go too crazy with the Xander exposure, as you’d be giving up a lot of placing points by fading Bryson and/or Rory McIlroy.
If this is for MME, you probably don’t need too much exposure to be overweight vs. the field. For this play to work, we’d definitely need to root for some chaos at the top of the leaderboard.
hondizzle: Xander Schauffele- The desire to have exposure to one or both of Rory and Bryson should leave us with a pretty low ownership on Xander Schauffele tomorrow. Schauffele has just as much access to a low round in the final of a major championship as the golfers priced in front of them. I really like the idea of Rory and Xander pairings. If Bryson struggles and we get good rounds from our two top-end spends, you will pass a lot of dead money in tournaments.
ezellmt: Tommy Fleetwood – It’s remarkable how often Tommy Lad has turned in epic R4 performances in majors lately. Here’s a few of the latest majors, with his average in the other 3 rounds in parentheses:
PGA Championship 65 (71)
The Masters 69 (72)
U.S. Open 63 (71)
He seems to thrive in the chaser role with nothing to lose, which is what he is going to be in Sunday. He’s not going to challenge for the win, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see him finish with the lowest round of the day.
