Welcome back, golf grinders!

This week, we head to Bay Hill for another edition of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and we have a very strong field assembled given its status as a Signature Event. Bay Hill is another challenging course that rarely sees a lot of golfers get into the double digits under par for the week. As for the course, Bay Hill is a par 72 layout that has plenty of trouble lurking to punish poor shots. Most of the scoring will be done on the par 5s, and we do have four of them at this course. All of those measure under 600 yards, and they are generally the four easiest holes on the course. Limiting damage will be the key on the remaining holes, though some of the other holes did play a bit easier a year ago. Scottie Scheffler was in “not human” mode at the time and won with a -15 score. He won by 5 strokes.

For most of the golfers though, this course is usually a matter of “hanging on” with the other holes and scoring as much as possible on the par 5s. It’s rare to see a par 72 layout play so difficult, but that’s the case with Bay Hill.

Tool Highlights

As is usually the case with challenging courses, this is a traditional ball-striker’s layout. Elite tee-to-green game will be very important, particularly if winds pick up like they often do in this part of the country. Bogey Avoidance and Par-5 Scoring will be the other metrics I look at closely. We must also note that given its status as a Signature Event, this tournament has a limited field of 72 golfers, and the cut will be the top 50 and ties (plus any golfer within 10 strokes of the lead) after Round 2. I might take a few more chances in GPP builds with the limited cut, though we have seen some wild rides with the limited-cut events over the past 2 years.

Let’s get to some of my favorite GPP options this week!

PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel GPP Breakdown for the Arnold Palmer Invitational

Rory McIlroy
DraftKings: $10,800
FanDuel: $12,600

PGA golfer Rory McIlroy

Even when both golfers were at their best, I would generally side with McIlroy over Scottie Scheffler on this specific course. While Scheffler did win here a year ago, McIlroy has made the cut all 10 times he has played at Bay Hill, and that includes a plethora of top-10 finishes and a win of his own. Scheffler has been a little more shaky since his return from injury, while McIlroy has a win under his belt at Pebble Beach earlier in 2025. It’s a close call, but the salary savings make McIlroy my choice at the top. McIlroy leads this field off the tee and ranks 5th in around-the-green play over the last 36 rounds, and both are elite skills to possess at Bay Hill.
